3 HOW TO USE CILOXAN®

The usual dose:

Adults:

Corneal Ulcer:

1.25 cm ointment ribbon in the eye(s) every 1-2 hours around the clock for 2 days, then every 4 hours for a further 12 days.

Bacterial Conjunctivitis (and Blepharitis):

1.25 cm ointment ribbon in the eye(s) 3 times per day for 2 days, then twice per day for 5 additional days. The dosing may be extended at the discretion of the physician.

Children:

Use the same schedule as for adults.

Use this much unless your doctor has advised you to do something different. Only use CILOXAN in your eye(s). Take it for as long as your doctor advised you to.

If you are using eye drops as well as eye ointments, you should use the drops first. Leave a gap of at least five minutes between using the drops and using the ointment.

How to apply this medicine:

  • Get the CILOXAN tube and a mirror.
  • Wash your hands.
  • Tilt your head back. Pull down your eyelid with a clean finger, until there is a ‘pocket’ between the eyelid and your eye. The 1.25 cm ointment ribbon will go here (picture 1).
  • Bring the tube tip close to the eye. Use the mirror if it helps.
  • To keep the medicine as germ-free as possible, don’t touch your eye or eyelid, surrounding areas or other surfaces with the tube tip.
  • Gently squeeze the tube to expel the ointment ribbon. (picture 2).
  • Remove excess ointment from the tip.
  • Replace the cap and keep the container tightly closed.
  • Close your eye(s) for a few seconds after putting the ointment into your eye(s) (picture 3).

If you put too much in your eye(s), rinse it all out with warm water.

If you forget to use CILOXAN , apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular routine.
